作機(jī)器視覺和圖像處理方面的研究工作,重要的兩個(gè)問題:其一是要把握住上前沿的內(nèi)容;其二是所作工作要具備很高的實(shí)用背景。解決問題的辦法就是找出這個(gè)方向公認(rèn)高成就的幾個(gè)專家(看看他們都在作什么)和權(quán)威的出版物(閱讀上面新的文獻(xiàn)),解決第二個(gè)問題的辦法是你好能夠找到一個(gè)實(shí)際應(yīng)用的項(xiàng)目,邊做邊寫文章。

  現(xiàn)在,上計(jì)算機(jī)視覺方面的三大會(huì)議是ICCV, CVPR和ECCV,統(tǒng)稱之為ICE。

  ICCV的全稱是International Comference on Computer
Vision。ICCV兩年一次,與ECCV正好錯(cuò)開,是公認(rèn)的三個(gè)會(huì)議中級(jí)別最高的。

  ECCV的全稱是Europeon Conference on Computer Vision,是一個(gè)歐洲的會(huì)議。

  CVPR的全稱是Internaltional Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern

  眾所周知, computer vision(cv)
存在ICCV/CVPR/ECCV三個(gè)頂級(jí)會(huì)議,它們檔次差不多,都應(yīng)該在一流會(huì)議行列,沒有必要給個(gè)高下。有些us的人認(rèn)為ICCV/CVPR略好于ECCV,而歐洲人大都認(rèn)為ICCV/ECCV略好于CVPR,某些英國(guó)的人甚至認(rèn)為BMVC好于CVPR。簡(jiǎn)言之,
三個(gè)會(huì)議差不多, 各有側(cè)重和偏好。

  筆者就個(gè)人經(jīng)驗(yàn)淺談三會(huì)異同, 以供大家參考和討論。 三者乃cv領(lǐng)域的旗艦和風(fēng)向標(biāo),其oral paper (包括best paper)
代表當(dāng)年度cv的最高水準(zhǔn), 在此引用Harry Shum的一句話, 想知道某個(gè)領(lǐng)域在做些什么,找最近幾年此領(lǐng)域的proceeding看看就知道了。
ICCV/CVPR由IEEE Computer Society牽頭組織, ECCV好像沒有專門負(fù)責(zé)的組織。 CVPR每年(除2002年)都在美國(guó)開,
ECCV每?jī)赡觊_一次,僅限歐洲, ICCV也是每?jī)赡暌淮?,各洲輪值?基本可以保證每年有兩個(gè)會(huì)議開, 這樣研究者就有兩次躋身牛會(huì)的機(jī)會(huì)。

  就錄取率而言, 三會(huì)都有波動(dòng)。 如ICCV2001錄取率>30%,且出現(xiàn)兩個(gè)人(華人)各有三篇第一作者的paper的情況,這在頂級(jí)牛會(huì)是不常見的
(灌水嫌疑)。 但是, ICCV2003, 2005兩次錄取率都很低, 大約20%左右。 ECCV也是類似規(guī)律, 在2004年以前都是>30%,
2006年降低到20%左右。 CVPR的錄取率近年來一直偏高,從2004年開始一直都在[25%,30%]。最近一次CVPR2006是28.1%,
CVPR2007還不知道統(tǒng)計(jì)數(shù)據(jù)。筆者猜測(cè)為了維持錄取paper的絕對(duì)數(shù)量, 當(dāng)submission少的時(shí)候錄取率偏高,
反之偏低,近幾年三大會(huì)議的投稿數(shù)量全部超過1000, 相對(duì)2000年前, 三會(huì)錄取率均大幅度降低,最大幅度50%->20%。 對(duì)錄取率走勢(shì)感興趣的朋友,

  顯然, 投入cv的人越來越多,這個(gè)領(lǐng)域也是越來越大, 這點(diǎn)頗不似machine learning一直奉行愚蠢的小圈子主義。另外一點(diǎn)值得注意,
ICCV/ECCV只收vision相關(guān)的topic,而cvpr會(huì)收少量的pattern recognition paper, 如finger
print等,但是不收和image/video完全不占邊的pr paper,如speech
recognition等。我一個(gè)朋友曾經(jīng)review過一篇投往CVPR的speech的paper,
三個(gè)reviewer一致拒絕,其中一個(gè)reviewer搞笑的指出, 你這篇paper應(yīng)該是投ICASSP被據(jù)而轉(zhuǎn)投CVPR的。 就topic而言,
CVPR涵蓋最廣。 還有一個(gè)沒有驗(yàn)證過的原因?qū)е翪VPR錄取率高: 很多us的researcher不愿意或沒有足夠的經(jīng)費(fèi)到us以外的地方開會(huì),
故CVPR會(huì)優(yōu)先接收很多來自u(píng)s的paper (讓大家都happy)。

journals流程。故了解投paper的一些基本技巧,掌握領(lǐng)域的走向和熱點(diǎn), 是非常必要的。
避免做無用功,選擇切合的topic,改善presentation, 注意格式 (遵守規(guī)定的模板),
我想這是很多新手需要注意的問題。如ICCV2007明文規(guī)定不寫summary page直接reject, 但是仍然有人忽視, 這是相當(dāng)不值得的。
